“The federal government remains shut down for one reason and one reason only: because Democrats will not fund border security.” (Nation on Immigration, 2019.)
On January 8th 2019 Trump gave a speech to the nation, addressing the immigration issue. However, even though many could see his perspective on the situation, nobody was able to endure how many hasty generalisations he made that were very inaccurate and false. Hasty generalisation is defined as " Drawing a conclusion (inference) on insufficient evidence." Trump seems to draw conclusions manipulating what people have said to suit him. In his speech he mentions that the only reason he has not built a wall to prevent immigrants from getting into America illegally or harmfully is due to Democrats not funding his request. However, this was proved to be inaccurate and clearly a hasty generalisation as Democrats offered $1.3 billion in funding for boarder security measures, but took to social media to state that they do not support the wall he is persistent in building. Trump is drawing a conclusion and basing his evidence of something that he has misinterpreted based on insufficient knowledge of the situation and what the Democrats were really willing to fund. He also has very insufficient evidence that the Democrats have said this, leading most of his viewers to believe that he just directly lied to them, and tried to use his authority to let people believe incorrect things. As he generalises the topic to trying to use ad authority into his speech leaving out specific parts when speaking, and expect people to listen and not prove him incorrect due to his position being the President Of The United States.
